Vitamin C is the fourth most commonly used type of dietary supplement for people aged 20 to 39 (5.2%), botanicals for people aged 40 to 59 (8.3%), and calcium for people aged 60 and over (19.2%). Botanicals are the fifth most common type of supplement for people aged 20 to 39 (5.1%), calcium for people aged 40 to 59 (7.7%), and vitamin B12 for people aged 60 and over (12.4%).

Other natural ingredients that are popular among people using herbal and botanical products are garlic (7 percent), blueberry (6 percent), echinacea (5 percent), and ginseng (5 percent). According to recent data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), multivitamin, vitamin D, and omega-3 supplements are the most popular options available, from young adults to seniors. The Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) recently released a survey that indicated that approximately 68 percent of all adults in the United States report taking dietary supplements on a regular basis. However, one of the most deficient is B12, a nutrient that helps keep the body's nerves and blood cells healthy and helps produce DNA, according to the National Institute of Health (NIH).
